WHY 6TH GEAR?

6th Gear Events was created to provide a relaxed and fun track day experience to allow like-minded individuals to share in their enjoyment of high performance cars and improve their driving skills within the safe and controlled environment that internationally renowned motor racing tracks can provide. Canadian Tire Motorsports park (formerly Mosport) provides an ideal environment for such a club and 6th Gear established the only permanent Club House at CTMP for track days right on pit lane in order to provide the best possible service to its members.

6th Gear has established that with sensible control of total car numbers and ensuring a good basic level of skill in its members it is possible to create a track day with fully open lapping that allows for you, the driver, to set your own schedule through the day for a much more relaxed and rewarding experience. An intended side effect of this approach has meant a much more personal feel to the day has resulted and members avoid the crowded and more commercial feel of other styles of track day. Our members have created a true ‘social club’ atmosphere around our track events that, along with the excellent value for money our events provide, has ensured we have a very high repeat attendance record through the years.

An additional component of our events is the 6th Gear Racing team’s range of cars that can be made available for selected free passenger rides through the day for drivers and guests. A high speed ride around Mosport in our professionally maintained Corvette C5R Race cars or the Radical SR3 open top sports racer will certainly put a smile on the face of any enthusiast, young or old!

WHO ARE 6TH GEAR?

Formed by a family of car and driving enthusiasts in 2004, the founding members have been taking part in track activities (both lapping and racing) for over 15 years. After being disappointed by the more traditional session-based lapping days – that seemed to produce very limited actual track time – and the impersonal feel, the group of friends decided to create their own track day event with ‘back to basics’ values and 6th Gear Events was formed.

6th Gear was created to achieve was a place for fun, safe and enjoyable track time with friends and this continues to form the ethos for 6th Gear events.

Since those early days 6th Gear Racing has been created for managing and running the motorsport specific aspects of the group’s activities, which resulted in a 3 car team entering the IMSA Prototype Lites L2 championship in late 2010, taking the Drivers and Team Championship in their first full season in 2011. Other racing activities have included Porsche GT3 Cup racing, Rally, Regional racing with our team Corvettes and are set to expand through 2012 with a variety of different cars and series.

Each track day is created to provide as much access as possible to one of the most challenging race tracks in North America, and a safe environment in which to explore its character. With professional level marshalling support and medical coverage, safety is of high important and this his been reflected in our excellent record.

Our successful format allows owners of any make or style of performance car to get a chance to lap the iconic Canadian Tire Motorsports Park (formerly Mosport) in a relaxed environment among like-minded enthusiasts without the pressure and compromised track time of on/off sessions typical of the more traditional track day.

Members are provided with breakfast upon arrival at the track for registration. This is followed by a mandatory safety briefing and flag refresher to ensure good track manners. The track is then opened for seven hours of open lapping – interrupted only by the lunch break when guests are served a four course gourmet Italian meal from our permanent exclusive pit lane Club House and open air grills. The justifiably famous food and refreshments provided by our chefs continues with the last hour of the day containing a closing barbecue right next to pit lane to ensure that no-one goes home from our events hungry!

On-track activities are left almost entirely free, although they are constantly monitored by the highly experienced members of Mosport Marshalling Services to ensure on- and off-track safety for every member and their guests. 6th Gear encourages and welcomes experienced track drivers of all levels alike, but every new member is subject to a ride-along induction session (Check Ride) by our own instructors to maintain the high standards of responsible driving and awareness that such a track as CTMP demands.

Please note: 6th Gear Events are considered “High Performance Driver Education Events” and racing is NOT allowed OR acceptable.

If any driver is unsure of their skills after passing induction, of the track itself or just wants to push their own driving to a higher level then a range of instruction options are available that range from exclusive or shared in-car instruction to rental of an in-car video/GPS data system that allows driving/vehicle analysis by our Professional Race Engineer from the Championship winning 6th Gear Racing team (contact us by email for details and availability).
